Emergency repairs happening at historic Pueblo firehouse

Posted: Updated:
PUEBLO -

Major restoration is happening at a historic firehouse in Pueblo.

The Pueblo Firefighter’s Historical Society says Fire Station Number 3 is the second oldest building the City of Pueblo owns.

It operated as a fire station from 1895 until 1979.

It’s now a museum and to keep it going it’s getting some emergency repairs.

Cracks and stonework on the front part of the building need to be fixed to prevent more damage, and also to protect the history inside.

Gary Micheli, president of the society, said, "We just hope that we can get some of the younger firemen or some of the younger people in the community to buy into it and to continue this on because there's a legacy right here that we hate to see go away."

Work on the building started on Wednesday and will be done on Friday.
