COLORADO SPRINGS -

The Bonfils Blood Center in Colorado Springs will open Tuesday in response to increased demand to give blood following the shooting in Las Vegas.

The center says it's final donation numbers are not yet available but as of 4 p.m. Monday, more than 700 donors registered.

The center, at 3760 Austin Bluffs Parkway, #110 will open Tuesday at 8 a.m. and will stay open until 2 p.m.

The blood center says due to the community's overwhelming response it prefers appointments, but walk-ins will be welcome. To schedule an appointment, click here or you can call 1.800.365.0006, option 2 or 303.363.2300.

Bonfils Blood Center said it is ready to send blood to Las Vegas if needed. In a news release, Bonfils said "At this time, the Las Vegas operations of United Blood Services have been able to provide the lifesaving blood needed by hospitals treating these victims."

People who are as young as 16 years of age (with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in general good health may be eligible to donate blood.
