Friday Football Fever Week 6: 5 Games to Watch

Posted: Updated:

We're getting ready for Week 6 of the high school football season here at the Friday Football Fever. Here's Sports Director Grant Meech's rundown of the 5 games to watch this week.

Final: La Junta 45, Manitou Springs 14

La Junta vs. Manitou Springs: Small schools get the big time treatment on Friday. The defending 2A champs come to Manitou Friday night, coming off a home win vs. TCA last Friday. The Mustangs got a big boost of momentum into this weekend with their road win vs. Lamar. On their way to a 2016 state title, La Junta clobbered Manitou 40-0 at home. The Mustangs would love to get a little revenge from that loss.

Final: TCA 27, Salida 19

TCA vs. Salida: Another small school match up with big time implications. A top ten match up in 2A and we'll see how TCA responds to their first loss of the season. La Junta took down the Titans last Friday at home. Salida improved to 5-0 after a win in Florence. If Salida can beat TCA, two of their final three games of the regular season are at home.

Final: Air Academy 7, Pueblo West 34

Air Academy vs. Pueblo West: The Kadets are filling up the stat book right now on offense off to a 4-1 start to the season, beating Sand Creek last Friday. They've scored 154 points through five games despite getting shutout in week three on the road. Pueblo West has come on incredibly strong this season, dominating Coronado 49-7. It will be interesting to see what Air Academy does in Pueblo West as they have been outscored 53-7 in two games on the road. Their lone loss being a 47-0 shutout to Niwot. If Pueblo West gets past Air Academy, it sets up a potential huge match up at Pine Creek in week seven.

Final: Poudre 28, Fountain-Fort Carson 31

Poudre vs. Fountain-Fort Carson: Jake Novotny's team has won two in a row after coming from behind to beat Doherty last week. Now they bring in Poudre from Fort Collins at 4-1. The Trojans are 13th in the RPI rankings in 5A and another win will boost them even higher. Five weeks to go in the regular season, every game is going to loom large for the Trojans.

Widefield vs. Mesa Ridge: We are going to find out how good each team is on Saturday afternoon at C.A. Foster Stadium. Widefield suffered their first loss of the season last week on the road against Chatfield. Mesa Ridge thumped Heritage at home and have the wind at their back for this rivalry game.
