Bicyclist hit by Colorado Springs police officer dies

Colorado Springs Police said a 30-year-old bicyclist who was hit by a CSPD officer has died.

On Sunday, September 24, Nicholas Watson was crossing the intersection of Dublin Blvd and N. Academy Blvd when he was struck by the unmarked police cruiser.

The officer, Sergeant Larry Morgan, immediately stopped to render aid to Watson as he had suffered serious injuries. Watson died from his injuries 5 days later.

Witnesses told investigators the bicyclist crossed the road while traffic had a green light.

Sgt. Morgan was going approximately 40 miles an hour, below the speed limit, when the accident happened. At the time, he was not responding to any emergency calls.
