Game of the Week, Cannon Game: Pueblo East vs. Pueblo South
Will the Cannon boom gold or will it boom black? We'll find out. Pueblo East currently holds the trophy in the annual rivalry game but the way South is playing right now, they are looking strong coming into the game. The Colts are one of the teams to watch in 4A right now, many believing they can challenge for a title. The 3-time defending 3A champs, East hasn't entered the win column this season.
#10 Canon City vs. #3 Palmer Ridge, 3A
The Tigers are having an incredible start to their season but can they get over the halfway hump and head into the second half undefeated? Palmer Ridge and their high-powered offense is standing in the way in Monument, Friday night. Quarterback Ty Evans and the Bears offense has consistently put up big numbers all season, a 49-28 win over Discovery Canyon last Thursday. Canon City has been challenged the last two weeks so they'll need a strong effort on the road to go to 5-0.
#3 TCA vs. #5 La Junta, 3A
This isn't necessarily a rivalry game but it absolutely falls in the grudge match category. La Junta beats TCA in a wild 4th quarter finish, rallying at halftime to win on a Hail Mary touchdown pass to beat TCA 24-21 in 2016. It was TCA's first loss of the season and many thought they would meet again in the 2A state title game, until the Titans fall in the 2nd round. The Tigers are your defending 2A champs but coming off their first loss of the season to Kent Denver, Saturday - what was the 2A state title rematch from 2016. TCA has looked really strong in 2017 under new head coach Justin Rich. After a week one shutout win, the Tigers have been winning by more narrow margins.
Discovery Canyon vs. Vista Ridge
Teams are always judged by how they bounce back from a loss and we'll see what character both of these teams have. Vista Ridge were shutout by Pine Creek, 26-0 on our #5football Game of the Week in Week 4. Discovery Canyon were outgunned in a 49-28 loss to Palmer Ridge. The Thunder are playing up a class for the second and only time this season. If Vista Ridge can win Friday night, they'll have momentum heading to back to back weeks on the road.
Ralston Valley vs. Pine Creek
The top team in 4A will battle another 5A opponent, their third of the season. Ralston Valley, a typical stalwart in CO Football, is having a down season. The Eagles will look to use their momentum from the shutout win over Vista Ridge into Friday night. Keep an eye out for two weeks from now when Pine Creek travels to Pueblo West, what could be a playoff type atmosphere.
