Friday Football Fever Week 4: 5 Games to Watch

Posted: Updated:

We're getting ready for Week 4 of the high school football season here at the Friday Football Fever. Here's Sports Director Grant Meech's rundown of the 5 games to watch this week.

Game of the Week - Vista Ridge @ Pine Creek: A 4A slug fest over the last few years, two of the best teams in the Springs square off. Pine Creek is the top ranked team in 4A right now, 3-0 on the season with wins against two 5A teams so far this season. They've allowed just 14 points this season while Vista Ridge brings in one of the best athletically talented offenses in the region. They've won two straight since losing to Windsor in week one.

Rampart vs. Ponderosa: Ponderosa is very familiar with the Springs, playing a game a year against a team from the Springs or Pueblo. Head Coach Jaron Cohen used to coach at Liberty before taking over the Mustangs program. Rampart bounced back from their only loss of the season with a 55-7 homecoming win vs. George Washington. The Rams boast one of the most dynamic offensive threats in the state in Keion Cross. Averaging 96 yards a game with five touchdowns. If they can get a win Friday, their next five games are all in the Springs.

Pueblo West vs. Dakota Ridge: Pueblo West has come out blazing in 2017, 3-0 after beating Pueblo South in double overtime in week three. Now they take that record on the road to Denver. The Cyclones, 10 years removed from their only football state title, would like to be the next Pueblo school to bring a title home. Their offense has been potent, scoring more points as the weeks go on, but they are also giving up more points as the weeks go on (7,14, 54). After this week, they are home for two straight before going travelling up to play Pine Creek.

Pueblo East vs. Canon City: Two teams going in two completely different directions. The three time defending 3A champs are still searching for their first win of the season after starting out the season as the preseason #1 team in 3A. They lost to Discovery Canyon last week in overtime in a rematch of 2016 title game. Canon City is riding high after beating Mesa Ridge last Friday. If they win Friday night, it will be their first 4-0 start since 2011.

Palmer Ridge vs. Discovery Canyon: This game received top billing on Thursday night at District 20 Stadium. Palmer Ridge (#4 in 3A) won the Palmer Cup last week, 35-7, over Lewis-Palmer and continue to put up big offensive numbers. Same goes for Discovery Canyon (#7 in 3A), who beat Pueblo East in overtime last Thursday. This is a matchup we could see in the playoffs in November.

FINAL: Palmer Ridge 49, Discovery Canyon 28
