DeMarcus Ware returns to Denver as honorary captain

Posted: Updated:
DENVER -

DeMarcus Ware is back in Denver but not in uniform anymore.

The former Denver Bronco outside linebacker and Dallas Cowboy returned as honorary captain for the Broncos as they played the Cowboys in week two of the season.

Ware played nine season for Dallas before coming to Denver in free agency in 2014. He played three seasons with the Broncos, going to the Pro Bowl every year and winning his only Super Bowl ring in 2015. He retired due to back injuries in his final season with the Broncos.

"I couldn't play with my kids and I couldn't sit down," Ware said. "You want to be able to enjoy the fruits on your labor after football. That big part was my kids. Now I have that opportunity and reap those benefits."

Ware is now spending his time broadcasting, working with the NFL Network after working with the Dallas Cowboys broadcast during the preseason. He still misses football.

"I miss the relationships that you have with the guys you're with. It's six o'clock in the morning to six o'clock in the evening. The off-the-field stuff like family, those are the things you miss."
