Springs police investigate two accidental shootings

Posted: Updated:

There were two accidental shootings in Colorado Springs this weekend which happened just a few hours apart. Officers say the latest happened at about 6:40 p.m. when a group of workers were passing around a gun at a business in 7200 block of Commerce Center Drive which is near the Embassy Suites hotel off of I-25 and Woodmen.

The owner of the firearm racked the slide and pulled the trigger shooting a co-worker in the foot. That gun owner, Elijah Albert, was arrested for First Degree Assault and Felony Menacing.

Earlier in the day at around 12:30 p.m. officers say another gun owner accidentally shot himself in the upper leg while getting into his car.

That shooting happened in the 4000 of Excaliber Drive in northeastern Colorado Springs near Oro Blanco and Barnes. The man was apparently trying to put the .40 calibur handgun into a holster attached to the seat, but told officers he didn't realize his finger was on the trigger. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
