Posted: Updated:

Colorado State Troopers are investigating a serious injury crash in the Widefield-Security area that happened overnight along Mesa Ridge Parkway. Troopers believe Fidel Heredia, 60, of Colorado Springs rolled through the stop sign at the "T" intersection with Marksheffel Rd. crashing his SUV into a dirt embankment and barbed wire fence.

His passenger, 46-year-old Freddy Gonzalez Garcia, wasn't wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries in the wreck. A medical helicopter was called to fly Gonzalez Garcia to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Troopers suspect that Heredia was drinking and driving. He's being booked at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center pending charges advisement of criminal charges on Monday.
