A large brush fire near Highlands Ranch in the Denver-metro area poses a challenge for firefighters due to the remote location.

Emergency officials had issued more than 3,000 pre-evacuation notices for residents in Douglas County before 8 p.m.

However, as of 8:30 p.m. all of that was canceled.

Smoke was visible for miles from the area on Ron King Trail, just to the east of Highway 85.

The fire was moving northeast in an area that has plenty of material that could burn easily through the undeveloped terrain.

Crews deployed a helicopter to drop water on the blaze and got to work knocking out fuel for the fire throughout the evening.
