Traffic Alert: Purcell Blvd. closes for repaving

Posted: Updated:

Beginning this morning, North Purcell Boulevard and access to I-25 for part of the county will close for over a month. Purcell will be shut down between Fairbanks and I-25.

This is all part of an asphalt replacement project to make for a smoother drive. Today, contractors will start shoulder work and move gravel and vegetation away from the asphalt in hopes of restoring some of the damage incurred from years of driving. On Monday, they plan to start grinding up the old asphalt.

"We realize it's an inconvenience to people that use that rode. However, that work needs to be done," said Pueblo County Public Works Director Alf Randall. "There are sections that are cracking and will not last forever or much longer for that matter."

Engineering and Public Works considered other options including directing one way traffic or night time operations. They tell News 5 closing the road is the quickest and most cost effective option.

The project should be completed by October 21. Until then, anyone trying to access I-25 should use Platteville Boulevard instead.
