"In The Stairwell" fails to advance to America's Got Talent finale

Posted: Updated:

The Air Force Academy's all-male a capella group "In The Stairwell" was not able to advance to the finals of America's Got Talent next week here on KOAA 5.

The group finished as one of 11 semi-finalists in the nationwide competition, which is still an outstanding accomplishment.

The group of cadets impressed the AGT judges throughout the competition as well as their classmates at the academy.

Simon Cowell said he thought he would see "In The Stairwell" in the finals, and the judges all gave the group a standing ovation.

During the group's performance, the Arnold Hall food court at the academy was lit up and filled up with energy and excitement from cadets cheering on their very own classmates Tuesday night.

"It's very true to them, so i think that's why everyone can kind of giggle as we all watch because we watch and we know them and we go to school with them, people that we're in squad with or pass in the hallway and it's just very true, it's not staged, it's just very them," Meghan Pattillo, an Air Force Academy cadet said during a watch party Tuesday night.

"In The Stairwell" was originally formed by a group of freshman cadets all the way back in 2004. They got their name singing in the only place they could, in the dorm stairwells.

The America's Got Talent two-night finale will air next Tuesday at 7 p.m. and the results will air Wednesday at 7 p.m. on KOAA 5.
