Nearly 1,200 drivers cited in Colorado during DUI crackdown

Law enforcement agencies across Colorado cited 1184 drivers during the Labor Day DUI enforcement period, an increase of 220 drivers from the same period in 2016.

Colorado Springs Police posted the most arrests statewide with 106 arrests. The Labor Day enforcement period ran from Aug. 18 to Sept. 5.

For comparison, Colorado State Patrol arrested 161 people for DUI, Denver Police arrested 88 people and Aurora Police arrested 93.

Law enforcement will be starting another heightened enforcement period from Sept. 15 to Oct. 23 for fall festivals and events.

According to CDOT, more than one third of Colorado's traffic fatalities are alcohol-related.
