27 arrests made in sex offender round up

Posted: Updated:

Local, federal, and state agencies stayed busy over the weekend after arresting 27 unregistered sex offenders.

'We would have liked to have arrested all of them,' said El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder.

In a collaboration with the Colorado Springs Police Department, Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) , U.S Marshal's Service, The Department of Homeland Security and El Paso County Sheriff's Office- all agencies worked together to track down the offenders.

'The planning piece is actually pretty easy we do this all the time, the Marshal Service came in gave us the resources, gave us the ability to put the process together,' said Elder.

Twenty seven unregistered sex offenders were arrested from the operation, in addition four from the C.B.I Top 100 Fugitive Sexual Offender List were arrested as well.

Authorities closed 46 warrants in the round up, including 31 felony warrants and 15 misdemeanor warrants.

The sex offender registry is available publicly, the list for El Paso county can be found at the following link.

El Paso County Sheriff Elder says more round-ups can be expected in the future, not only for sex offenders but with gang members wanted as well.
