Miami Police say if you're thinking about looting, stay indoors

Posted: Updated:

MIAMI - "Thinking about looting? Ask these guys how that turned out," Miami Police wrote on Facebook along with an image of suspects in a jail cell. Police are investigating reports of people looting stores as Hurricane Irma hit the state.

Deputy Police Chief Luis Cabrera told the Miami Herald the officers went to the Shops at Midtown on Sunday afternoon as the winds of Hurricane Irma were at their strongest. Cabrera says a group in a white truck hit multiple locations.

Police were out in full force, as multiple reports of looting spread across the city. Police told a WSVN reporter looters were stealing sneakers from multiple FootLocker stores.

Police had issued a curfew Saturday night, partly to ward off looters by giving officers probable cause to stop anyone for being on the street during the storm.

Fort Lauderdale Police have also taken 20 people into custody for looting and burglarizing.
