Mitchell High School will host a special ceremony Monday to mark the 16th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 tragedy.

The ceremony will take place at the school on 1205 Potter Drive starting at 9:00 a.m. The Mitchell High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps will host the commemoration.

There will be a special tribute to Kathryn Yancy LaBorie. She was a 1975 graduate of Mitchell High School who was a flight attendant aboard united Airlines Flight 175. Her plane was the second one to hit the World Trade Center. As part of the tribute, the JROTC cadets and the Yancey family will be laying a wreath and releasing balloons in her honor.

Also taking part in the ceremony will be the high school band, choir and the Colorado Springs police and fire departments. The community is invited to attend.
