Colorado Springs Fire Department personnel already deployed on a FEMA mission to Texas will now move closer towards Florida in preparation for Hurricane Irma. Currently, 8 members are in Texas. They'll be joined by three more crew members this week.

The 11 staff members who are part of Colorado Task Force One will then stage at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.

Hurricane Irma, right now a Category 5, is hitting the Caribbean with a forecast track that takes it right down the center of Florida or along the eastern coast of the Sunshine State.

Colorado Task Force One left our state on August 30 aboard a C-130 to Beaumont, Texas. The entire task force is comprised of 32 members, plus ATF Force protection officers. Personnel used 6 boats in their efforts to assist flood victims in the southeastern portion of the state.

The group has now expanded to 80 members who are divided into a Type 1 Fema team and a Type 1 FEMA team.

"Everyone in Colorado Springs should be very proud of our firefighters, and all the members of Colorado Task Force 1.  These individuals are among the most well trained and equipped technicians in the nation, and they are putting years of preparation to work as they serve those who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey," said Colorado Springs Fire Chief Ted Collas upon their initial deployment.
