CUSTER COUNTY (AP) - A doctor from eastern Wyoming hospital died in a climbing accident in Custer County.

Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyo. said Tuesday that Dr. Jamie Rupp died in an accident in the Sangre de Christo mountains over the Labor Day Weekend. Hospital officials say Rupp's wife was notified of his death on Monday.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports  Rupp was a nephrologist at Memorial Hospital, the type of doctor that treats diseases of the kidneys.

Memorial Hospital CEO Ryan Smith said Rupp spent his entire career in Wyoming, working at the Veterans Administration Clinic in Casper before joining the Douglas hospital in 2014.

Rupp had planned to climb the Kit Carson and Challenger Mountains over the weekend.
