Air quality health advisory issued for wildfire smoke

Posted: Updated:

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory because of wildfire smoke.

Colorado Springs and Pueblo are under the alert for most of the day Tuesday until 4 p.m., but that could be extended if conditions worsen. The smoke is blowing into Colorado from fires in Montana and other wildfires burning in the western United States.

Health officials say anyone with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should limit their outdoor activity during the advisory today.

The haze is even worse in Denver, where the city is under a red alert. Colorado Springs is only in the orange category. Health officials say the smoke should decrease over the course of the day.
