The mosquito population is expected to increase throughout Texas

Posted: Updated:

CORPUS CHRISTI - As if Hurricane Harvey victims didn't have enough to worry about, the City of Corpus Christi estimates an increase in mosquitoes. In a recent news release, the city reminds residents to protect themselves.

Texas electric company AEP has already had run ins with the mosquito issue, as it is making it difficult for them to restore power to those displaced.

Residents are encouraged to dump standing water around property as it only takes a small amount of water to start breeding. Wearing long sleeves outside, using any DEET mosquito repellant and limiting time outdoors to dogs are helpful as well.

The City of Corpus Christi will begin a spraying treatment to the treat the city from Vector Control crews. The company will be spraying larvacide and monitoring the mosquito counts daily.
