'Turn yourself in," woman who unknowingly helped Amber Alert trio makes plea for man on the run

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS -

For Carol Archuleta, picking up a couple with a baby walking along the road seemed like the right thing to do.

'I just felt like they were in need,' said Archuleta.

An Amber Alert had been sent out in Colorado to find all three of them. Authorities believed Venzor-Gonzalez kidnapped Adams and the 1 year-old boy.  L

The statewide Amber Alert issued Thursday afternoon even caught Archuleta's attention when she was with the trio 'I said it kind of jokingly, 'you aren't the ones that kidnapped the baby are you?' and he says I don't have a car".

Archuleta took Maurcio Venzor-Gonzalez, his ex-girlfriend Samantha Adams and their 1 year-old child to a nearby Wal-Mart. Archuleta was with her granddaughter and even took the trio to Wendy's before taking them to her home for the night.

Archuleta says Venzor-Gonzalez told her his name was Vicente and Adams' name was Kristine. She added that Venzor-Gonzalez talked most of the night, Adams was more reserved.

'Now I know what I know, she was in shock," said Archuleta.

Archuleta says she looked for other options for them to have a place to stay but nothing worked out.

"They seemed like normal people," said Archuleta who compared the encounter to an evening with new friends.

'I didn't see anything that would draw my attention to anything bad,' said Archuleta.

One of Archuleta's friends did put the two together and even called the cops with the help of a coworker 'if it wasn't for him, they wouldn't have tracked him down as quick,' said Archuleta.

Come Friday morning, Venzor-Gonzalez told Archuleta they needed to go to Denver. Archuleta agreed to drive them, she says an officer pulled them over near Castle Rock and didn't recognize the people in her car.

Police caught up with all 3 of them near Denver, Venzor- Gonzalez took off running and authorities are still on the hunt for him. They say he is armed and dangerous.

After the hospitality she provided for him, Archuleta wants to see him come forward.

'Turn yourself in and do what you have to do- be a man about it," said Archuleta. 'He needs to do it for his son. If he loves his son and has any respect for the mother. He needs to at least make that right he's done wrong he's hurt a lot of people,'
