Homicide investigation underway in Cañon City

CANON CITY -

Police in Cañon City are investigating a deadly shooting at the McDonald's on Fremont Drive.

Police said at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday night they were called on a report of a shooting. They found a man who was deceased on the scene from an apparent gunshot wound. 

Officers said a suspect was caught in the area a short time later.

They have not released any information about a motive. No names have been released. Police say they appears to be no threat to the public at this time.

The owner of the Cañon City McDonald's released a statement Sunday night, it reads,

"The safety of our employees and our customers is of utmost importance and we are cooperating with the police to ensure they have all the information they need for their investigation. Please direct any questions to the Canon City Police Department. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved in this unfortunate incident." Dave Napier, McDonald's Canon City owner/operator

    News 5 Investigates has learned two Trinidad police officers were injured following a foot chase with a suspect. According to the Trinidad Police Department, Officer Hugh Harkin conducted a traffic stop on the 300 block of First street on Sept. 17. The driver, Raymond Smith, got out of the car and ran.Cpl. Jason Villotti heard the call and arrived on scene to assist Officer Harkin. Both officers caught up with Smith after he jumped over a wall.
