Sky Sox fall to Express 9-1

Posted: Updated:

Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a two-hit night, but the Sky Sox saw its four-game win streak snapped in a 9-1 defeat to the Round Rock Express in front of 1,732 at Security Service Field Monday night.

Celebrating his birthday during the homestand opener, Nieuwenhuis put the Sox on the board in the second inning, lining a one-out single to left field. Nick Noonan came around from second base to beat the throw from Express outfielder Willie Calhoun. For the designated hitter, the single marked his 26th RBI in his first game since his return from Milwaukee.

Colorado Springs (68-44) looks to bounce back Tuesday night at 6:40 p.m.MT, when RHP Paolo Espino (4-1, 3.72 ERA) squares off with Round Rock RHP Tyler Wagner (3-9, 6.46) during another $2 Tuesday. As always, tickets, parking and Coors products are all two dollars.
