COLORADO SPRINGS -

A group of Colorado Springs Girl Scouts offered their support to dozens of cancer patients at UCHealth Memorial’s Breast Surgery Center on Friday, in hopes of bringing some joy during a difficult time.

In January, Troop 2109 began assembling 50 "recovery bags" for cancer patients. The bags were filled with all kinds of comfort items blankets, homemade earrings, gift certificates, journals even a personalized card. The girls initially came up with a number of special projects as ideas, but ultimately, they decided on the recovery bags because of how many people are affected by breast cancer, including someone in their troop.

This project earned Troop 2109 the "Silver Service Award,” which is the highest award they can earn as Cadette scouts.
