Sky Sox fall to Rainiers 4-3 in extra innings

Posted: Updated:

The Colorado Springs used a seventh-inning rally to tie the game, but a 10th-inning solo home run from Gordon Beckham gave the Tacoma Rainiers a 5-4 win in 10 innings in front of 5,367 at Security Service Field Friday night.

Colorado Springs (63-40) scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning on some heads-up hustle from Brett Phillips. With two outs, Chris Colabello grounded an infield single to Tacoma third baseman Danny Muno. With Phillips rounding third, Muno’s throw home bounced into the Sky Sox dugout, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The hosts came alive offensively in the seventh inning, scoring two runs to tie the game at three. Andrew Susac hit a towering solo shot to the light pole in left field for his eighth home run of the season. After a two-out Kyle Wren triple, Mauricio Dubon grounded a RBI single up the middle to extend his hitting streak to four games.

The Sox head back on the road for eight games over a nine-day stretch against the PCL Pacific Southern Division. Saturday night begins 2017’s lone four-game series at Cashman Field against the Las Vegas 51s, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets. RHP Brandon Woodruff (6-5, 4.79 ERA) looks to bounce back against Las Vegas RHP Jonathan Albaladejo (0-0, 0.00).
