Posted: Updated:

The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC fell 3-4 to Western Conference rivals Energy FC after going down 1-4 early in the second half.

Looking to bounce back after a 1-2 loss to Phoenix last week, the Switchbacks were looking to claim the season series against Western Conference rivals Energy FC. Both sides got off to a competitive start, as each team had a handful of opportunities. The Switchbacks would take the lead in the 25th minute as Jordan Burt barely stayed onside to flick Kevaughn Frater's shot past Laurendi. Oklahoma City would pick up the intensity and find their equalizer in the 39th minute as former Switchbacks forward Miguel Gonzalez headed home a Hyland cross from the left side. Oklahoma City would take a 2-1 lead into halftime as José Angulo curled one into the near post to beat Pouaty. Energy FC would take the 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Switchbacks struggled early in the second half. Miguel Gonzalez scored his second of the match in the 51st minute and José Angulo scored his second just nine minutes later in the 60th to give Energy FC a 4-1 lead. The Switchbacks caught a break in the 63rd minute as Shane Malcolm was taken down in the box minutes after coming on. Jordan Burt would convert from the spot to cut the Energy lead to 2-4. The Switchbacks would earn a second penalty in the 72nd minute as Frater was taken down. Frater would then have his penalty saved but would finish the rebound. The Switchbacks would make an effort to equalize as an extra four minutes of stoppage time were played. Despite their best efforts the Switchbacks fell just short in their comeback and lost 3-4 on the road.

The Switchbacks will now return home on July 29th at 7:00 PM for 90s Night.
