Independence Day: Fireworks rules and where to see displays

Posted: Updated:

As we look ahead to the 4th of July, remember fireworks are illegal in Colorado Springs, Monument, Fountain, and Manitou Springs.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department encourages everyone to take advantage of a wide range of public shows, rather than taking a risk by doing it yourself.

Find a list of shows below

The CSFD urges people to report illegal fireworks use by calling their non-emergency number at 719-444-7000. Please do not call 911 unless it is an emergency.

In El Paso County, a general rule is to consider fireworks that fly, explode or shoot flaming balls illegal to use, possess or sell. Fireworks use is prohibited in county parks. Due to the risk of fire, please carefully consider the area of use before celebrating.

Illegal fireworks include:

  • Bottle rockets
  • Firecrackers of any type
  • Mortars
  • Roman candles

 Permissible fireworks include:

  • Fountains
  • Ground spinners
  • Smoke Bombs
  • Sparklers

Trick noise makers are not fireworks, and therefore are allowed. They include:

  • Snaps (small paper wads that are thrown on the ground)
  • Champagne poppers (pull string and they launch colored paper)
  • Pull string poppers (small 2" paper tube with a string from each end)
