Van Meter's Miles: Let's Run A Half Marathon

Full disclosure, I’ve done a half marathon before. Actually, I’ve done three. However, it’s been a few years since I’ve really done any running.  Believe me, you lose it fast.  It's kind of depressing. I tried to get back into running when I moved to Colorado, but I found the elevation to be too challenging. My lungs would give out before my legs whenever I tried to run.  Now that I’ve been here for a bit, I’m hoping I’ve gotten used to it. So I’m ready to give it a go! I’m going to get back into shape and run another half marathon.

If you’ve always wanted to run a half marathon yourself or even if you’re just looking to get in better shape and build some endurance, I hope you’ll get some miles done with me!  No pressure. I just want to finish and conquer the elevation. I hope that this will inspire you to get out there and set your own goals!

I realized that I won’t stick with this if I’m on my own. I need something to keep me accountable. That’s what this is going to be. I’ll be posting about my runs and training on our KOAA Instagram account with the name and hashtag #vanmetersmiles. You'll also find updates on my Facebook page -  here.

I’ll also post at least a blog a week on our website about how training is going and about different aspects of training my body to run 13.1 miles again. There may even be some videos full of ranting and raving about how horrible this idea is. I’m guessing that will come around the time 6+ mile runs enter the picture.  Something to look forward to.  I'm thinking of taking up an office pool on when I'll finally crack.

So I hope you’ll tag along! Let me know how your progress is going or how you train or stay motivated. It’s going to be a long 12 weeks or so and I have a feeling my own motivation will probably tank at some point. HM-Day will be Labor Day with the American Discovery Half Marathon in Colorado Springs. Until then, I hope you’ll find some entertainment, inspiration, knowledge, and a place to focus on hitting goals.
