Doherty High School students are working to finish their school year, despite problems with ventilation in their building. School administrators have released a schedule of events for all students that will be in effect next week. Next week is also graduation.

The school has been closed for the past week because of two separate incidents that caused smoke to spread through the building. The air ducts are being cleaned and the air quality tested to make sure that there is no danger to students. The principal and other school leaders have been releasing information about what students and parents need to know to finish out the year online and on Facebook.

Here is an update on next week's activities, including graduation.

Monday, May 22nd-- 9th graders attend school from 7:40 a.m.- 12 p.m.
Tuesday, May 23rd-- Graduation day -- 3 p.m. at the World Arena-- No school for any students
Wednesday, May 24th-- 10th graders attend school from 7:40 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Thursday, May 25th-- 11th graders attend school from 7:40 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Friday, May 26th-- Student/teacher meetings by appointment only

The schedule for each of the half days will be the same. At 7:15 a.m. each day, doors to the main gym will open, promptly at 7:40 a.m. a class meeting will start. In that meeting, students will learn the logistics of locker cleanout, teacher meetings and yearbook distribution.

Graduation day has a whole different set of requirements. There are no tickets required and parking will be free at the World Arena. The doors open at 1:45 p.m. and parents are being asked to be seated by 2:45 p.m. There is no reserved seating, so large families are asked to arrive together in order to make sure they can all get seating if they want to sit together. There is also handicapped seating available in the front of section 108.

Graduating seniors need to arrive at the World Arena by 1:00 p.m. in order to take part in a rehearsal. Students are asked to dress appropriately, and not to arrive in their cap and gown. They will be allowed to put them on after the rehearsal. It is also important to note the purses will not be allowed in the ceremony area.

No one is allowed to bring food, water, other drinks or any noisemakers into the World Arena.

In the event of a government shutdown, a surprisingly large number of federal employees will still go to work. For example, letter carriers will still deliver the mail and TSA agents will still be at the airport to screen passengers before boarding planes.
