Sky Sox fall 4-1 to El Paso

Posted: Updated:

Ryan Cordell recorded his 26th RBI of the season, but the Colorado Springs Sky Sox fell to the El Paso Chihuahuas, 4-1, in front of 7,675 Thursday night at Southwest University Field.

For the third straight game, the Sky Sox (23-13) jumped out to a first-inning lead. Fresh off a 10-game hitting streak, Cordell lined a one-out triple to the right field gap, scoring Ivan De Jesus and giving the visitors a quick 1-0 lead three batters into the game. The Sox have scored first in five straight games, including all four games at El Paso.

Despite taking the loss, RHP Brandon Woodruff contained the El Paso (19-22) offense, allowing three earned runs and striking out a season-high eight batters in 5.2 innings. The bullpen trio of Stephen Kohlscheen, Andrew Barbosa and David Goforth combined to allow one earned run over the 3.1 innings.

After splitting the series in West Texas, Colorado Springs heads north on I-25 to New Mexico, where they begin a four-game series with the Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. LHP Josh Hader (3-2, 4.20) opens the series against Isotope RHP Barry Enright (1-0, 0.00) at 7:05 p.m. MT at Isotopes Park.
