COLORADO SPRINGS -

The Colorado Department of Transportation issued a chain law for I-25 north and southbound at Monument hill due to snowy conditions Thursday morning.

CDOT was advising drivers seeking an alternate route north to exit at Academy Blvd (mile marker 150) towards eastbound Highway 105 and Highway 83 north. The road was not closed, yet there was long backup due to tractor trailers sliding on the road.

As of 10:50 a.m. the City of Colorado Springs was on accident alert status. Accident alert has been lifted as of 2:52 p.m.

In the event of a government shutdown, a surprisingly large number of federal employees will still go to work. For example, letter carriers will still deliver the mail and TSA agents will still be at the airport to screen passengers before boarding planes.
