Pueblo homes still in need of yard clean-up

Posted: Updated:
PUEBLO -

Tuesday marked the last day the city of Pueblo agreed to pay for the disposal of tree branches.

But there's still a lot of homes that haven't been cleaned up from last month's storm.

Neighborworks had teamed up with the city to put together volunteer groups this month to go out and clear branches from the yards of elderly and disabled residents.

They had around 250 people call in, asking for help, though volunteers were only able to get to about 125 of those homes.

Even though everything wrapped up May16th--Neighborworks is still encouraging people to come together and help clear out some of those leftover yards.

"We did what we could in that period.  I know with the resources that we have right now, we can't allocate more time to that.  I would say if you know someone in your community or neighborhood that needs help, help them.  That's what it really comes down to," said David Hovar, with Neighborworks.

The City-County Health Department is offering discounted trash disposal in a series of "neighborhood clean-ups across the county.  Curbside pickup is available for elderly and disabled.  For more information, click here.

A shortage in construction workers is being felt across the nation and it's hit Colorado Springs hard. While it's no secret the demand is high for housing across the city right now and it's been growing for decades.
