Weather postpones state track meet until Saturday and Sunday

Posted: Updated:
AURORA -

The Colorado High School Activities Association has delayed the state track meet until Saturday due to poor weather conditions in Aurora.

Teams and athletes were scheduled to compete Thursday through Saturday. Now the events will likely be compressed to fast track everything.

"The only feasible way to deal with this number of schools and kids is to say, 'You're here, and you're going to get in as much as you can while you can.' And then we will continue as soon as the next availability allows," said CHSAA commissioner Paul Angelico. "This is an attempt to be consistent in how we deal with this across the board."

The meet is the largest state championship with more than 250 schools and more than 5,000 athletes scheduled to compete.

Any potential delays or changes will be communicated on Twitter @CHSAA and here.

In the event of a government shutdown, a surprisingly large number of federal employees will still go to work. For example, letter carriers will still deliver the mail and TSA agents will still be at the airport to screen passengers before boarding planes.
