MANITOU SPRINGS -

Increased calls for help on the Manitou Incline have El Paso County Search and Rescue reaching out to remind everyone to read the rules before making the ascent.

Visitors are encouraged to use the stairs as an uphill route only, with a trip down using the footpaths of Barr Trail. Plan your trip accordingly with plenty of time for the entire trek.

Looking up at the Incline looks daunting, but when you start heading down it can be downright dangerous. With a narrow path traffic in both directions also creates challenges on the extreme trail. That's why Barr Trail is available as the downhill route.

With the rugged conditions it takes rescuers a long time to reach someone in distress. So, using good judgment keeps you and others safe.

Please remember that the area is both private and public land. Be considerate of landowners by keeping the noise to a minimum and sticking to the trails.

Also, dogs should not be brought to the area due to safety concerns.
