Several non-profits that work to make Colorado Springs a better place now have a new home with the Sustainacenter.

The grand opening for the facility at the corner of Boulder and El Paso Streets near downtown took place on Thursday morning.

Six agencies, including the Trails and Open Space Coalition and Colorado Springs Food Rescue, are moving into two city-owned houses once used by the Housing Authority.

The hope is consolidation will improve efficiency and save money for all in the long run.  The City of Colorado Springs Office of Sustainability was formed a year ago. The office worked to raise money for renovations to the space.

A Sustain-a-thon celebration happens on Saturday, with an open house, entertainment, and food trucks from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. All the family-friendly events take place at Mid Shooks Run Park and the Sustainacenter (702 E. Boulder St).

Another land swap is on the agenda for Colorado Springs City Council. Under the deal, the City would trade parcels with developer David Jenkins for land located just west of the train tracks near America the Beautiful Park. Swapping the land would allow C-DOT to put in a better design for new storm water infrastructure that is building as part of the I-25 Cimarron Interchange project.
