COLORADO SPRINGS -

Emergency responders in Colorado Springs are preparing for the upcoming flash flood season. Ever since the Waldo Canyon fire five years ago the danger has been heightened.

The Colorado Springs Emergency Operations center filled with activity Wednesday for a practice exercise. The scenario was based on the type of flooding that happened in August of 2015 below the Waldo Canyon burn scar on Colorado Springs west side.

Emergency managers also want community members to review their own flash flood preparedness. On Wednesday evening there is a community meeting to share information on flood mitigation status and preparing for flood season ahead. The location is Chipeta Elementary on Flying W. Ranch Road. It goes from 6:30 t0 8:30 in the evening.
