Colorado Springs swears in new City Council

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS -

Colorado Springs now has a new City Council. This morning was the swearing in ceremony and there are several new additions to the council. We had a chance to speak to several who tell News 5 they're ready to hit the ground running.

Council members tell us some of the top priorities include addressing fire and flood risk as well as maintaining streets and infrastructure and finally creating a comprehensive plan for Colorado Springs in the coming years.

"We're gonna take off," said Council Member Yolanda Avila. "We're going to work together. We have a vision of this city. I'm going to approach it with open mindedness and compassion and just work really hard."

The Council is getting right to work. In fact their first Utilities Board Meeting is tomorrow.
