District 11 to offer free summer classes

Posted: Updated:
COLORADO SPRINGS -

This summer D11 is putting a new twist on learning for your students. It's all part of their free summer enrichment program.

The program is all about connecting students will subjects they're passionate about. With everything offered from archery, art and even a Mars Yard course, some of these classes are ones you wouldn't normally expect to find on a course list.

District 11 is offering free summer courses to students currently enrolled in grades K-7 with subjects ranging from math and technology to art.

The program will take place over the month of June and students can sign up for anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks.

Organizers say it's all about giving kids the chance to think outside the box.

"They're going to be collaboratively working, they're going to be problem solving," said D11 K-12 Science Facilitator Linda Sanders. "They're going to have to be risk takers and trial and error experts."

Classes will be offered at 14 different schools with free transportation provided to each. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided.

A shortage in construction workers is being felt across the nation and it's hit Colorado Springs hard. While it's no secret the demand is high for housing across the city right now and it's been growing for decades.
