Sky Sox win 5-1, win series with Nashville

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Josh Hader tossed his second one-hit outing of the season and the offense once again provided some late-inning insurance to secure a fourth straight victory for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, defeating the Nashville Sounds, 5-1, in front of 6,324 Sunday afternoon at First Tennessee Park.

The Sky Sox (7-3) held the Sounds to a single run for the second straight night, thanks in part to the outing of Baseball America’s No. 2 prospect in the Milwaukee System. Hader (2-1, 2.57) rebounded from his last outing in Memphis and shut down the Nashville lineup, striking out five batters and allowing a fourth-inning single to Renato Nunez before giving up an earned run in the seventh inning.

The bullpen continued its shutdown excellence, with the trio of Stephen Kohlscheen, Tyler Cravy and Rob Scahill tossing 2 1/3 more scoreless innings to secure the club’s first series win on the road and second overall in 2017.

Colorado Springs broke through the scoreless duel in the fifth inning with a pair of runs to provide Hader with some cushion. Garrett Cooper extended his season-opening hitting streak to 10 games after singling up the middle to score Lewis Brinson. One batter later, Brett Phillips, who finished with a three-hit afternoon, replicated Cooper’s play with a RBI single up the middle of his own to score Ryan Cordell.

A shortage in construction workers is being felt across the nation and it's hit Colorado Springs hard. While it's no secret the demand is high for housing across the city right now and it's been growing for decades.
