COLORADO SPRINGS -

Our annual 5Pet Check is coming up soon.  In conjunction with Colorado Veterinary Medical Association we want to you help keep your pets healthy, even if you don't think you can afford it.  Dr. Susan Bloss with the Cheyenne Mountain Animal Hospital shared with us, what 5Pet Check is and what happens.

“5Pet Check is a program for vaccinating pets of underprivileged owners.  We are giving dogs and cats a free physical health exam and a vaccine.   Across Colorado around 50 clinics are taking part, offering over 1,000 appointments.  Last year we saw over 1,200 pets last year.”

Dr. Bloss also points out why is it important to make sure we're checking the health of our pets.

"When we do a physical exam, and we recommend those yearly, we do a complete check of your pet.  We'll check starting with the front end, checking their teeth, their eyes, their ears, and  their heart.  We go over of their whole body and see if we detect anything that shows that there's a problem.  Vaccines prevent diseases and there are many diseases that we don't see now because we do vaccinate for them.  So included in the annual exam is a rabies vaccine that is donated by one of our vaccine companies, Mireille, and they've graciously donated the vaccines for the whole state."

Here’s how you can take part in this year’s 5Pet Check.  Next appointments will take place on the weekend of Saturday April 8th, and Sunday April 9th.

Watkins' body found in the very place where he loved to ride on Sunday and there remain a lot of unanswered questions a day later. This news has most people on edge in the heart of Palmer Lake, with a strong warning from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office to remain vigilant. "It's a small town, you feel safe in a town like this, that's why people move here," David Tenace, a neighbor said.
