Presiding Judge in Planned Parenthood shooting trial to retire
The presiding judge in the trial of accused planned parenthood shooter, Robert Dear, is set to retire.
It was confirmed Tuesday by the State Judicial Department that Chief Judge Gilbert Martinez, of the 4th Judicial District, will step down at the end of July. Judge Martinez will recommend a successor before he leaves the bench July 31st.
He has presided over the Dear case since his arrest in November of 2015. While Dear has publicly admitted to the murders, it remains on hold.
No trial date has been set as Dear undergoes a mental health evaluation. Dear is accused of murdering three people and wounding nine others.
