The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Sports Medicine and Performance Center will be named in honor of local philanthropist William J. Hybl. The 72,000 square foot project is still under development with major construction set to begin in July 2018.
UCCS's current plan calls for a center that includes "human performance testing, training, research and education, medical-based fitness, athletic training, physical therapy, an orthopedic anchor, sports medicine-focused primary care, continuing education, research, and educational offerings, as well as three interdisciplinary centers of distinction."
As the project is still under development, artist renderings and an estimated cost of the project are not available at this time.
Penrose-St. Francis Health Services will collaborate with UCCS to run the William J. Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center. The center will be next to the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences. Campus officials are looking forward to adding a six-building health and wellness village.
Hybl is the chairman of the El Pomar Foundation, which has worked to support UCCS efforts in the redevelopment of North Nevada Avenue.
