PUEBLO -

National Adoption Awareness month just wrapped up at the end of November. To celebrate the Pueblo County Department of Human Services finalized five adoptions in one day.

Adoption day is often the end of a very long road, sometimes years in the making. Adoption day jitters turned to excitement as three couples realized the fresh start with their now official families.

"We're very happy to be his parents," said Jennie Martinez. "Just very nervous about today, adoption day. Just couldn't sleep or anything."

"We've had our struggles, and she's had her little days," said Ramona Trejo. "She's come a long way and we're very happy."

The Sewell family adopted their three biological grandchildren ages five, three and one as their own.

"We're just ready to give the kids structure, stability and love first and foremost," said Katherine Sewell. "Everything they deserve in life."

The Trejo's family growing as well. "We have five of our own, this is our sixth." It's a big step they want others to take as well.

"I would encourage other people to do the same," Trejo said. "To adopt."
