We're honoring a special teacher here in southern Colorado. Miss Amanda Galvan is December's Teachers First award winner.

We surprised her Thursday in front of her fourth graders at Ranch Creek Elementary.

It's a Spanish immersion school and 'Senora Galvan' as her kids know her, teaches entirely in Spanish half the week. Then her partner teacher continues the lessons in English for the other half.

A student from two years ago, and his mother, nominated Galvan for this award, saying she gives each student the attention they need and says she honestly changed his life.

"I'm really excited for her I can't think of anybody better who deserves this recognition. She's a life changer. She's wonderful," says Sarah Montoya of her son's former teacher.

"I feel so lucky to be recognized for spending time with the kids, especially from one of my little guys that has a special place in my heart," says award-winner Amanda Galvan.
