Hayden Pass Fire now 50 percent contained

The Hayden Pass Fire, burning in Fremont and Custer Counties near Coaldale, has burned 16,414 acres and is 50 percent contained as of Wednesday night, according to fire officials.

The fire hasn't grown over the last several days, 589 firefighters remain on scene. 

People evacuated from County Road 6 will be allowed back into their homes beginning Thursday at 8:00 a.m. ONLY if they have a pass for reentry. Evacuees must register with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office.  Evacuees can contact the sheriff's office if they didn't receive a pass. 

Road Closures: 

  • County Road 1A from Hwy 50 to Hwy 69
  • County Road 39
