Scott Turner request recount for El Paso County Commissioner District 4
EL PASO COUNTY -
El Paso County Commissioner District 4 candidate Scott Turner is officially requesting a recount.
Turner, notified the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Office Monday.
"Out of over 6800 votes cast in Commissioner District 4 it actually came down to a 34 vote difference or 18 votes for me or 18 votes for my opponent or .002%,” Scott Turner said in a press release. “After discussing this with my family and my supporters the consensus was that after so much hard work and effort we could not rest until we had done everything available to ensure the outcome is correct. So today I have notified the election officials that I will pay for and request a re-count of the votes. I have confidence in the Clerk and Recorder and his staff and will honor the final outcome.”
The race came down to just 32 votes in early July, and election officials had to wait for all the ballots to be returned before calling the race.
On July 8, 2016 election officials announced Longinos Gonzalez Junior officially won the race by just 32 votes, enough to prevent an automatic recount.
