Hayden Pass Fire now 35 percent contained

The Hayden Pass Fire, burning in Fremont County near Coaldale, has burned 16,414 acres and is 35 percent contained as of Monday night, according to fire officials.

All structure protection was completed by Saturday night. Full containment could take another six days. About 847 fire personnel are working the fire.

People living in the following areas will be allowed to return to their homes beginning Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. ONLY if they have a pass for reentry. Passes can be picked up at Cotopaxi High School from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Monday.

  • County Road 1A
  • Eagle Peak Subdivision West of County Road 1A 
  • Mosher Creek area
  • County Road 40
  • Fox Creek subdivision

Mandatory evacuations (all evacuated roads are CLOSED):

  • County Road 6, South of County Rd 45
  • County Road 35
  • Lutheran Camp (Custer County)


  • 3 mile radius from County Rd 6

Road Closures: 

  • County Road 1A from Hwy 50 to Hwy 69
  • County Road 39
