Hayden Pass Fire grows to 7,500 acres

Posted: Updated:

Fire officials say the Hayden Pass Fire has grown to approximately 7,500 acres in Fremont County near Coaldale.

Crews are still calling for mandatory evacuations for people south of County Road 6, as well as a three mile radius of County Road 6 and County Road 45.  Additionally, people living along County Road 40 are now under a mandatory evacuation order, including the Fox Creek subdivision.

The fire is burning predominantly on National Forest Service land, but has spread to private land.  Officials say the closest structure to the blaze is the Hayden Campground, located just a half-mile away from the fire.

Fire crews are expecting difficult firefighting conditions on Monday.  They say they'll provide another update on their progress later Monday.

The fire was caused by a lightning strike Friday, according to the Forest Service
