Posted: Updated:

Colorado Springs native Daniel Carr of Pikes Peak Athletics will compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming in Omaha, Nebraska on June 26 through July 3 to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Swim Team. This is the first time Carr has qualified for the Olympic Trials

Carr will be among the top 1% of swimmers in the United States, including Olympians Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. This meet is the sole qualifier to determine who will make the team that will compete in Rio de Janeiro. Carr will be competing in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke.

“These past seven months have been the most quality and specific training I have ever had and I know whatever the outcome is I will be happy because I have done everything I can leading up to trials,” said Carr. “I am super excited to represent Pikes Peak Athletics and Colorado Springs and I’m excited for the future.”

Pikes Peak Athletics senior team coach Steve Fair will accompany the swimmers to Omaha.

“I am excited for him because this has been a goal of his for a long time,” said Fair. “It's going to be a great experience for him and an awesome introduction to trials while he is still in high school. He is going to make waves! One of the coolest things is that Daniel is showing the team that coming to practice every day and working hard can pay off.”
