Your Healthy Family: Treatment for cancer patients

Posted: Updated:

There's cutting edge treatment for cancer patients available in our area.
A new radiation oncology facility is opening a Memorial Hospital North.
We got an inside look on Wednesday.
The facility houses the new equipment that delivers precise, high-intensity radiation beams that destroy cancer cells.
"This can treat tumors anywhere in the body. So a number of things we use to treat surgically, like brain tumors and some lung tumors we are able to treat with this pin-pointed radiation very effectively and very conveniently for the patients without any cutting," said Dr. Jane Witter Ridings with Memorial Hospital.
About 4 in every 10 patients who now receive their radiation therapy at Memorial Hospital Central live in northern Colorado Springs, so the new facility will offer convenient care close to home.
Oncology providers will begin treating patients April 4th.
